WASHINGTON (AP) — The German Embassy is hosting one of the biggest World Cup watch parties in Washington as Germany takes on the United States in Brazil.
The embassy is hosting the party in the park at Dupont Circle Thursday. Two giant screens were set up. That along with security and permits cost about $30,000, and the embassy is picking up the tab.
Some offices are hosting their own watch parties for employees.
At the nonprofit National Trust for Historic Preservation staffers were gathering in a conference room to watch together with food and a flat-screen TV. Spokesman Andy Grabel says quite a few staffers are dressed in red, white and blue for the United States. He says the nonprofit group decided the World Cup match was something the staff could celebrate together.
