RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — To smooth the way for holiday travelers, Virginia highway officials are suspending construction and maintenance on most interstates and highways for the Memorial Day weekend.
The work pause starts at noon Friday and ends at noon Tuesday. The Virginia Department of Transportation says action is intended to keep travel lanes open and traffic flowing.
VDOT also provides information on travel patterns for the past three holiday weeks from major interstates. They show peak congestion periods.
