Mexican official charged with organized crime

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Mexican federal prosecutors say they have charged the former interior secretary in Michoacan state with participating in organized crime.

Federal prosecutor Rodrigo Archundia said Wednesday there is evidence that Jose Jesus Reyna met several times with leaders of the Knights Templar drug cartel.

Reyna was detained last month during the investigation.

Federal prosecutors say Reyna met with members of the Knights Templar, including the fugitive cartel leader Servando Gomez. A video showing Reyna and Gomez was released on the Internet by an anonymous person shortly after the former official was detained.
