WASHINGTON (AP) – Some 1,800 law enforcement officers and supporters are riding bikes to a rendezvous at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington Monday.
Spokesman Steve Groeninger says they’re participants in the Police Unity Tour, bike rides that started an average of more than 300 miles away along “seven different spokes from points in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Virginia.”
Groeninger says thousands of friends, family and colleagues will be waiting to cheer them on and welcome them at the end of their journey.
Each rider will pedal through the “Pathways of Remembrance” that flank the memorial’s walls. It’s part of National Police Week, which includes a candlelight vigil at the memorial Tuesday night.

Attorney General Eric Holder and Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson are among the speakers who will dedicate the names of 286 officers added to the memorial this year.
