WASHINGTON — What a 4-year-old lacks in college basketball coaching experience, he makes up for in cuteness.
Phillip Stephen Martelli, 4, stood behind his grandpa, Phil Martelli — coach of St. Joseph’s University men’s basketball team — at Sunday’s 2014 A-10 tournament final and mimicked his every move.
In the stands, the mini coach wore a blazer and adult-sized tie and toted a white board. The boy even impersonated his grandpa’s furrowed brow, frustration and joy during the game.
The Hawks went on to beat Virginia Commonwealth University, 65-61.
