You could call CLiNK happy hour on-demand: an app that allows D.C.-area users to find happy hour spots in an instant.
The brainchild of David McWhorter, a homeland security consultant, CLiNK was created after McWhorter felt there was a lack of options for local happy hour information.
CLiNK was first launched in the Dupont Circle area in August. The app relies on geolocation technology that customizes up to 15 happy hour spots within a user’s proximity.
“There is nothing out there to date that is anywhere as near as accurate,” McWhorter said. He has kept his app focused on the Dupont area to make sure he can handle data loads and ensure the information is accurate.
CLiNK is now eyeing expansion plans to U Street, Adams Morgan, Bethesda, Arlington, Springfield, Va., and Virginia Beach in the near future with the help of “agents.”
“I want each agent to own the area, which is about 200 bars,” McWhorter said.
Agents will update the app for with new information, as well as acting as a liaison with local bars in an assigned region.
As the app grows, McWhorter has big plans, hoping to expand across the country. However, he understands it is a tedious process.
“I need to stay small for a while. If we get too big, data will get stale,” McWhorter said. “Once we really get rolling, I can eventually see employing thousands of agents.”
CLiNK is available for free on both the iTunes and Google Play stores.
