WASHINGTON – Commuters on Kensington Parkway near Beach Drive may have been surprised Wednesday morning when they passed a digitized road sign instructing them to “Smoke Weed Evryday.”
Police got a call around 8:35 a.m. alerting them to the message and it was deactivated by 8:50 a.m., says Lucille Baur, spokeswoman with the Montgomery County Police Department.
Baur says it appears someone hacked the sign, which is operated by D & F Construction Co. in Potomac, Md. The company is doing work for Montgomery County.
Montgomery County officials are talking with the construction company about its responsibility to properly secure, lock and monitor sign boards while it is performing work.
It’s unclear how long the message was up.
