LivingSocial Inc. — as a brand, at least — “does not stand a chance” and is going to vanish in 2014, or so predicts 24/7 Wall St. in a doomsday top-10 ranking that you’re going to click on whether you want to or not.
Based on the body of previous reporting on the District-based daily deals giant, the online financial pub places LivingSocial among the “Ten Brands That Will Disappear in 2014,” alongside Volvo, J.C. Penney, Nook, “Martha Stewart Living” and “Road & Track” magazines, Olympus, the WNBA, Mitsubishi and Leap Wireless.
The report doesn’t necessarily say “go bankrupt” or “die.” It simply indicates that LivingSocial won’t live on as an independent brand past next year. It might be bought out, for example.
Nothing particularly new in the rationalization here — we’ve all been reporting the incremental news of LivingSocial’s struggles, which are very real. Though, no one knows exactly what’s going to happen.
Even if 24/7 Wall St. thinks it does.
