WASHINGTON – It is spring, according to the calendar.
Still, many area residents have been reaching for a hat and gloves to stay warm. The weather is a stark contrast to the warmer temperatures last year.
“Last March was astoundingly warmer,” says ABC7 Meteorologist Ryan Miller.
In 2012, the D.C. area experienced highs in the 60s and 80s. Nationally, it was the hottest March on record.
Around D.C., temperatures were about 10 degrees above average.
“Ten degrees from a climatological standpoint is well above average. So March of 2012 was really up there,” Miller says.
Last month, highs were in the 40s and 50s.
It may feel relatively freezing, but it is not all in your head. Temperatures around D.C. were nearly 3 degrees below average.
But that should change soon.
According to Miller, forecasters predict higher than normal temperatures in the coming months.
“We could jump into the warm stuff very quickly in this area,” he says.
