BALTIMORE (AP) – The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that there has been another death in Maryland from fungal meningitis related to recalled medications.
The CDC website, which was updated on Monday, shows Maryland with two deaths, with the second apparently reported within the past week. Maryland health officials had reported the first death in October.
A spokeswoman for the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene said Monday night that she did not have information about the most recent death. A spokeswoman for the CDC said the agency gets the mortality information from state health departments.
The CDC reports that nationwide, 590 cases of illnesses, including 37, deaths have been linked to a specialty pharmacy.
The New England Compounding Center distributed the contaminated pain injections.
