If you live in the District, you may end up paying more to heat your home.
Earlier this year, Washington Gas Light Co. proposed two rate hikes that would generate an extra $148 million over five years to finance a gas pipe replacement program and cover post-employment benefits for the company’s workers.
The gas company is seeking a $29 million rate hike to pay for employee pension costs and a separate increase of $119 million to replace gas lines, the Washington Business Journal reports.
If the $29 million rate hike is approved, D.C. residents could be charged nearly $12 more each month.
The D.C. Public Service Commission has not ruled on the proposal yet and the case will likely continue into next year.
Washington Gas serves more than 1 million customers in the District, Maryland, and Virginia.
