Sub commander removed over conduct allegations
The Navy says it will not detail allegations of personal misconduct against a submarine commander before it has completed its investigation. Navy Cmdr. Michael P. Ward II was relieved as commanding officer of the USS Pittsburgh on Friday based on “allegations of personal misconduct.” He had taken command of the attack submarine a week earlier.

1 dead after head-on crash with police cruiser
One man is dead and a Fairfax County police officer hospitalized after a head-on collision early Monday. The crash forced the total closure of Franconia Road between Edison Drive and Gum Street for four hours. The road fully reopened around 9:30 a.m.

‘Sequestration,’ now political toy, could crush Va.
It’s a hot-button issue in Virginia’s high-stakes Senate race right now, but “sequestration” stands to devastate Virginia’s economy unless Congress acts in the next few months to avert it. The issue with its alien-sounding name is Washington shorthand for deep, indiscriminate and automatic cuts to national defense and other federal spending. Virginia would suffer disproportionately because it’s home to major defense sites, including the Pentagon.
