WASHINGTON – Frank Hayward III was the only one in his family to survive after police say his father killed his siblings, his mom and himself.

Now, the 12-year-old Calvert County boy is out of the hospital.

Hayward was treated for cuts to his neck and severe burns after the attack inside his Owings home on July 31. The Calvert County community helped raise money to pay for his medical bills while he recovered.

The Calvert County sheriff’s office says the boy is in the temporary custody of his uncle. A judge will decide where he will live permanently.

Deputies say Hayward’s father murdered his wife and their 2- year-old daughter before taking his own life.
