Fredericksburg police make arrest in July homicide

Update: Officials have arrested a 43-year-old suspect for the murder of Armando Escobar. Juan Antonio Zarco Melchor was taken into custody Tuesday in Marietta, Ga. Authorities believe Melchor fled from Virginia immediately after the crime. He is facing first-degree murder.

WASHINGTON – Fredericksburg Police are looking for a possible suspect in a July 25 homicide at a homeless camp.

Police released a composite drawing of the suspect in connection with the homicide of Armando Escobar. His body was found behind the Central Park Townhomes.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his early 50s, about 5-feet-4- inches tall with dark skin that appears sun-weathered. It is believed he usually wears a baseball cap and speaks limited English.

Anyone with information is asked to call Det. Patrick Lamb at 540-654-5740.

Callers may be eligible for a cash reward if the information leads to the arrest and conviction of a suspect.
