WASHINGTON – The NAACP wants the Maryland State Police to investigate claims a Laurel City police officer struck a handcuffed man multiple times, and the man in custody is suing for $3 million.
A cellphone video taken by a barber in the parking lot of the Laurel Station Bar and Grill shows the officer striking Dante Williams three times in the head, according to Channel 7.
In a meeting with Laurel officials, the NAACP asked the city to place the officer on administrative leave, with or without pay until an investigation is done.
“I’m not going to discuss the case. It’s under full investigation. We’ve been notified we’re going to be sued,” says Mayor Craig Moe.
Williams filed a $3 million civil lawsuit against the city and the officer for excessive force.
