WASHINGTON – How would you feel if your neighbors knew how much money you made?
It could happen, if you work for the federal government.
A New Jersey newspaper recently proved that anyone can go online and find out the salaries of thousands of non-exempt federal workers by filing a request under the Freedom of Information Act.
Some feds tell Federal News Radio that exposing the personal details of IRS or Defense Department officials could lead to blackmail or bribes.
Others say it comes with the territory of working for the government.
