WASHINGTON – A D.C. Man is facing one count of felony animal abuse in the fatal beating of a 6-year-old Yorkshire terrier.
23-year-old Ishmaaiyl Mulheron is accused of killing his roommate’s dog, the body of which was found on Feb. 2. Mulheron was arraigned on April 9 and a preliminary hearing is set for May 3. He faces up to five years in jail and a $25,000 fine.
According to a press release from the Washington Humane Society, the dog died from massive internal bleeding due to blunt force trauma which caused hemorrhaging and damaged organs.
“This helpless dog suffered a horrific death,” said Scott Giacoppo, vice president of external affairs and chief programs officer for the Washington Humane Society. “This extreme and violent act of animal cruelty is appalling and the person responsible must pay for the abuse that ultimately cost an innocent animal his life.”
