WASHINGTON – A Severn couple is facing animal cruelty charges after trying to neuter their Golden Retriever puppy on their own.
The four and a half month old male puppy, named “Cola” was discovered by an Anne Arundel County Animal Control officer following an anonymous tip.
The caller told animal control the residents at a home in the 8000 block of Sebring Court were trying to neuter their male dog.
The animal control officer found Cola with a rubber band wrapped around his testicles, which appeared shriveled and discolored.
The puppy was taken and transported to animal control for treatment. He was immediately rushed to Greater Annapolis Veterinary Hospital where he underwent surgery. The neuter was completed pro bono.
Charges are pending against Cola’s owners, who will not be named at this time.
Animal Control would like to remind the public that if they cannot afford to provide proper medical care for their pets, they should ask for assistance through local veterinary clinics or the local Animal Control shelter.
