WASHINGTON – Giant is joining the growing number of food merchants stopping sales of fresh ground beef with the filler known as “pink slime.”
The filler is made from bits of leftover meat.
Giant said it made the change after questions and concerns from hundreds of customers. The Kroger, Stop & Shop and Safeway chains are doing the same.
Public schools in Fairfax and Montgomery counties are also scrapping the slime from their cafeterias. Prince George’s County says it’s never served it in its cafeterias, and never will.
