WASHINGTON – Some big changes are coming to the open space right across from Nationals Park.
JDLand reports the owner of the lots north of the stadium in Southeast — which have hosted The Bullpen and Das Bullpen beer gardens — plan to transform the area into a new space called Fairgrounds in time for the 2012 season.
As part of the project, a site at Half and M streets will host permanent food merchants, food trucks, a music stage, HD televisions, cornhole sets and of course, alcohol. Shipping containers will play home to retail merchants, and will open at 11:30 a.m. each day.
Another area south of the park will host bigger events, like Truckeroo and possible farmers markets.
JDLand says Fairgrounds will be open every day of the week from the start of the Nats’ season through Oct. 1. There are also plans to start construction this summer on a long-planned apartment building across from the stadium.
