D.C., Md. escape snow, but Virginia might get several inches

WASHINGTON – Those expecting winter weather this weekend were probably disappointed. A slow moving system spread some light rain and snow over the metro region Sunday, but there was no major precipitation.

Parts of Virginia could get several inches of snow overnight, but D.C. and Maryland are too far north to get much of that wintry mix.

The National Weather Service posted a winter weather advisory for Spotsylvania and Orange counties from Sunday 1 p.m. through 1 a.m. Monday.

ABC7 Meteorologist Bob Ryan put the odds of D.C. getting a major storm at “less than 10 percent.”

Temperatures are expected to rise overnight, with highs Monday near the 50s.

Culpeper County public schools will start two hours late Monday.

The winter advisory affects the following counties in Virginia:

  • Augusta
  • Rockingham
  • Nelson
  • Albemarle
  • Greene
  • Orange
  • Highland
  • Pendleton
