9 things not to do when making a fake sick call to work

WASHINGTON – Who hasn’t been there? A weekend of partying and not enough sleep can sometimes lead to calling in sick Monday morning to work.

But calling in sick on a Monday is one of the top ways to get busted on a fake sick call, says the website HeadDrama.

The site lists the nine sure-fire ways to get caught making a fake sick call:

  • Too many details: Including too much information about your sickness, such as the details of your symptoms and the meal you ate before you started throwing up, are unnecessary. They start to seem suspicious.
  • Party pictures on Facebook: “Friending” your boss on Facebook is a relationship not to be entered into lightly, especially if you’re prone to posting photos of yourself out drinking on the weekends. Your boss might wonder why you called in sick the night after you had a “Raging party guys!”
  • Going out with co-workers: Going out for after-work happy hour will look suspicious if you’ve called in sick the next day and everyone is talking about last night.
  • It’s Friday or Monday: You’ve been fine all week, but suddenly Friday morning you come down with a case of the sniffles. Bosses can see the pattern if you are constantly calling in sick for those suspicious three-day weekends.
  • It’s around a vacation day: Calling in sick right before a big trip or planned vacation is just unprofessional.
  • No visible signs of illness: Showing up to work the next day completely fine and without any signs of a sniffling nose or cough will seem strange to the boss.
  • Conversely visible signs you were not ill: Coming in with a sunburn the day after you called out sick is beyond suspicious.
  • Assuring your boss you’ll be better the next day: It’s always suspicious when you reassure your boss that even though you are as “sick as a dog” you will most certainly feel better by tomorrow.
  • Getting your work done ahead of time: Planning for a fake sick call is not too smart. Miraculously finishing two days’ worth of work right before you call in sick will look suspicious to your boss.
