Old habits die hard; Two rivals continue the brawl (VIDEO)

WASHINGTON — It started with laughter, moved to incredulous gasps and then ended with eerie silence.

Old men fighting is no joke, apparently.

At least that’s what the audience thought at the Canadian Football League Alumni Legends Luncheon in Vancouver last Friday. Two former CFL players, Joe Kapp and Angelo Mosca, got into a shoving match that quickly escalated into a near cartoonish scrap with Coke-bottle glasses and canes flying everywhere.

The planned reunion had meant to provide an occasion for the former players, both in their mid-70s, to squash an old beef. Kapp, a former B.C. Lions and Minnesota quarterback among other athletic accomplishments, offered a flower to Mosca in an attempt to reconcile bad blood.

Mosca — who played defensive tackle for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and was, wait for it a professional wrestler — swatted the flower away and the two had at it.

Check out the ensuing brawl:

The triumphant Kapp then cries, “Sportsmanship!” to the crowd.

The Mosca-Kapp feud originates from the Lions vs. Tiger-Cats 1964 Grey Cup — the CFL’s championship game. Mosca’s late and out-of-bounds hit on the Lions’ Willie Fleming injured the star running back and relegated him to the sidelines. Mosca’s Tiger-Cats went on to win the game.

Fast forward to the conference 57 years later, (which, consequently, was set up to address head injuries in contact sports) and the feud continues.

Grey Cup? More like Old and Grey title bout.
