Burkett’s 52-yard TD pass to Carter, Aden’s 84-yard scoring run help Albany beat Cornell 31-10

ITHACA, N.Y. (AP) — Myles Burkett threw a 52-yard touchdown pass to Jacari Carter early in the third quarter and Faysal Aden capped the scoring with an 84-yard run in the closing minutes Saturday to help Albany pull away late and beat Cornell 31-10.

Cornell (1-2) went three-and-out on the opening possession of the second half and, on the next play from scrimmage, Burkett hurled a deep pass down the middle to Carter, who made the catch as he tumbled into the end zone, despite defensive pass interference, to make it 13-7 and Albany (2-3) led the rest of the way.

The Big Red responded with a 12-play drive that took almost 4 1/2 minutes off the clock but had to settle for a 35-yard field goal by Alan Zhao with 8:28 remaining in the third quarter but they got no closer.

John Opalka kicked field goals of 37 yards to open the scoring, 18 yards to make it 6-0 midway through the second half and 43 yards to stretch the Great Danes’ lead to 16-10 going into the fourth quarter.

Jojo Uga scored on a 16-yard run to cap a 13-play, 77-yard drive that took more than 7 minutes off the clock and made it 24-10 with 3:08 to play. Cornell, with the help of an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, quickly moved deep into Albany territory but failed to convert a fourth-and-goal from the 7 with 1:48 remaining and three plays later Aden’s touchdown run sealed it.

Jameson Wang was 22-of-31 passing for 187 yards and a touchdown for Cornell.
