YPSILANTI, Mich. (AP) — Jesus Gomez made a 34-yard field goal in the second overtime to lift Eastern Michigan to a 37-34 win over Jacksonville State in its home opener Saturday.
Gomez made a 41-yarder with a minute left in the third quarter to give the Eagles a 31-20 lead before the Gamecocks rallied in the fourth.
Tyler Huff threw a 32-yard score to Michael Pettway in the first minute of the quarter, then found Brock Rechsteiner for a two-point conversion. Garrison Rippa made a 51-yard field goal with 34-seconds left in regulation to tie it at 31.
Gomez and Rippa each made 40-yard field goals in the first overtime.
Jacksonville was called for holding on second down from the 23 in the second overtime, and Rippa misfired on a 38-yard field goal to open the second overtime.
Cole Snyder completed 26 of 37 pass attempts for 273 yards and two touchdowns to lead Eastern Michigan (2-1).
Huff was 24 of 34 for 311 yards and two scores for Jacksonville State (0-3). Cam Vaughn caught six passes for 94 yards.
