Rice banks in 3-pointer at the buzzer as Monmouth knocks off Campbell 88-87

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. (AP) — Xander Rice scored 37 points, including a 3-pointer just before the final buzzer, to lead Monmouth over Campbell 88-87 on Thursday night.

Trailing 87-85 with 2.3 seconds remaining, Rice caught an inbounds pass near the free-throw line and raced to midcourt before banking in a contested shot for his eighth 3-pointer of the game.

Rice also contributed five assists for the Hawks (14-12, 7-6 Coastal Athletic Association). Jaret Valencia scored 13 points and added five rebounds and four blocks. Jack Collins had 12 points and shot 4 for 13 (1 for 9 from 3-point range) and 3 of 3 from the free throw line.

Anthony Dell’Orso led the Fighting Camels (12-14, 6-7) in scoring, finishing with 31 points, 10 rebounds and two steals. Gediminas Mokseckas added 15 points and four assists for Campbell. In addition, Elijah Walsh finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
