WASHINGTON — The season is over for American University’s women’s basketball team.

They lost 71-60 to No. 3 seed UCLA in the first round of the women’s NCAA Tournament on Saturday.

American did manage to hang tough with the Bruins, pulling within seven with a little less than two minutes left to play. But in the end, American couldn’t overcome the 15 point lead that UCLA jumped out to in the first quarter.
