Emergency back surgery postpones Brian Wilson’s Kennedy Center show

WASHINGTON — Famed Beach Boys musician Brian Wilson has had to postpone his May 7 show at The Kennedy Center due to emergency back surgery.

“As some of you might know I have been having some issues with my back that have very recently gotten worse,” Wilson said in a statement posted to the Kennedy Center website.

“My doctors have told me that I need to have back surgery immediately. They are optimistic that this will finally relieve the pain. Sadly, this means we must postpone the upcoming May shows. I’m very sorry for any inconvenience this may cause to everyone who was coming out to see us.”

The new concert date is set for Monday, Nov. 5.

Fans who already have tickets for the May 7 show will be able to purchase tickets for the November gig in advance of the public on-sale date. Refunds will be issued through the original payment method.

The Kennedy Center asks that ticket holders destroy their old tickets.

“Please know that the music is in my heart and in my soul and me and the boys are looking forward to performing for you very soon,” Wilson’s statement said.
