Takoma Park police chief resigns

WASHINGTON — Takoma Park’s police chief has resigned, the city announced Friday.

After his 39-year career in law enforcement, Police Chief Alan Goldberg resigned for personal reasons, according to Friday’s news release. Goldberg served the City of Takoma Park since 2012 and previously worked with the Montgomery County Police Department.

Takoma Park City Manager Suzanne Ludlow attributed many improvements in the police department throughout Goldberg’s tenure, particularly in crime analysis and public information sharing. Ludlow also noted the community’s positive response to a message from Goldberg regarding immigration a few days following the 2016 presidential election results.

Three captains in the Takoma Park Police Department will rotate Acting Chief responsibilities while the City of Takoma Park conducts a national search for a new chief.
