Montgomery Co. crash injures 2, shuts road for hours

WASHINGTON — A crash shut down Connecticut Avenue in Montgomery County Saturday, and one person is in critical condition. The drivers involved have been identified Sunday.

The crash happened around 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Connecticut and Denfeld avenues in Kensington, Maryland.

A silver Chevrolet was traveling north on Connecticut Avenue, approaching Denfeld Avenue, while a black Volvo was about to turn left onto Denfeld Avenue from Connecticut Avenue, when the two vehicles collided.

The Volvo’s driver has been identified as Carlos Enrique Hernandez, 64, of Rockville; he has life-threatening injuries and remains in critical condition, police said. The Chevy’s driver has been identified as Miguel Angel Ramirez, 23, of Silver Spring; he has non-life-threatening injuries.

Police told NBC Washington earlier Sunday that one of the two cars may have been speed racing at the time. One driver struck the car trying to make a turn off Connecticut Avenue, T-boning it.

A third driver who may have been involved came back to the scene and is cooperating with authorities, NBC Washington reported.

The crash created road closures and diverted traffic most of Saturday night as police investigated the area.
