WASHINGTON — Cardinal Theodore McCarrick fainted during a church service Thursday night, but the Washington Archdiocese says he’s doing fine.
The former archbishop of Washington gave to the homily at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Bethesda, Maryland. During the service, he fainted while sitting in a chair.
Paramedics responded and took McCarrick to Suburban Hospital, where he remained overnight.
An archdiocese official tells The Washington Post McCarrick had been fasting and may have been dehydrated.
McCarrick, 84, served as archbishop of Washington from 2001 to 2006,
