MoCo To Switch To ‘Plant-Derived’ Artificial Turf Fields – A County Council resolution on Tuesday means Montgomery will pursue plant-derived materials to fill future artificial turf fields, instead of the crumb rubber pieces common in those fields now. Councilmember Roger Berliner cited health and environmental concerns with the crumb rubber fields. Last year, Berliner and others took a look at a new field in Gaithersburg that uses an infill made up of coconut fiber, cork and rice husks. [Montgomery County Council]
