ESSEX, Md. (AP) — Maryland State Police have ended their search for a driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash Sunday after a Baltimore County woman turned herself in.
Authorities say the crash happened about 1:30 a.m. Sunday on the ramp from the northbound Jones Falls Expressway to the outer loop of I-695.
Investigators say 30-year-old Ramon J. Purvey of Owings Mills, Maryland, was standing next to his car on the shoulder of the ramp when he was struck by a sport utility vehicle. Purvey was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver of the SUV sped off.
State police say Whitney D. Flanigan, 30, of Pikesville, Maryland, turned herself in at the Golden Ring Barrack around 3 p.m. Sunday and had counsel with her. Charges are pending, according to police.
Flanigan was driving a 2001 BMW X5 with Pennsylvania registration. The car belonged to a family member and was located in Owings Mills. The cause of the crash is still not known at this time.
Police continue to investigate this crash.
