OCEAN CITY, Md. (AP) — The National Weather Service has issued a tropical storm warning for parts of Maryland’s Eastern Shore as Hermine (her-MEEN) continues moving north along the East Coast.
The warning, posted around noon Friday, includes Ocean City, Salisbury, Cambridge, Snow Hill, Pocomoke City and Berlin. St. Mary’s County is also included in the warning.
The warning area also includes the Chesapeake Bay south of Smith Point.
Forecasters are expecting peak winds ranging from 25 miles per hour to 50 miles per hour, depending on the location, and gusts of up to 65 miles per hour. They also say there’s a threat of tropical storm force winds of up to 73 miles per hour starting Saturday.
Forecasters also are urging residents along coastal areas to brace for a possible storm surge of a foot or more.
