GREENBELT, Md. (AP) — A 26-year-old man has been sentenced to four years in prison for a car crash that killed his wife and her sister.
Charles Jerome Wiggins of Cottage City was sentenced by U.S. District Judge George Hazel on Tuesday after being convicted on involuntary manslaughter and reckless driving charges in March.
Authorities say Wiggins was driving on the Baltimore-Washington Parkway in December 2013 when he rear-ended a truck near Route 202. His car flipped over and skidded on its roof.
Wiggins’ wife, 34-year-old Kiana Wiggins, and her sister, 21-year-old Angel Barbour, who were passengers in the car, were killed. Charles Wiggins, Barbour’s boyfriend, and two people in the truck were injured.
Officials say Wiggins’ blood alcohol level at the time of the crash was 0.19 percent.
