WASHINGTON — Police have identified the driver who died after striking a tree just off Interstate 95 in Maryland early Sunday morning.
Maryland State Police say the driver of a 2005 Honda Accord lost control and veered off into a wooded area in Howard County and hit a tree.
Police arrived near Vollmerhausen Road around 1:30 a.m. Sunday to find paramedics attending to the driver trapped inside the car.
The driver, 28-year-old Luis Adolfo Mendez of Burtonsville, Md., was removed from the car, but succumbed to his injuries on the scene.
Lanes three and four southbound on I-95 were closed for more than three hours following the crash.
