FREDERICK, Md. (AP) _ The Maryland Department of Natural Resources is promoting a smartphone application that helps scientists track the spread of invasive plants.
Ecologist Kerrie Kyde says the Mid-Atlantic Early Detection Network app is available for iPhone and Android devices. She’s planning to hold four workshops around the state this spring or summer to teach people how to use it.
The app was developed by the Center for Invasive Species and Ecosystem Health at the University of Georgia as part of its effort to create a national atlas of invasive plants. It enables anyone to send observations and locational information about invasive plants into the university’s mapping system.
