WASHINGTON — Portions of Virginia State Routes 7 and 659 will be closed overnight this spring as work begins on the interchange between Belmont Ridge Road and Harry Byrd Highway.
To accommodate the setting of structural steel, Loudoun County officials are planning two phases of work at the intersection.
Phase 1
The first phase is scheduled to begin the night of Monday, March 27, and run Monday through Friday nights until around April 10, weather permitting.
Along Route 7, westbound single-lane closures will begin at 10 p.m. Route 7 eastbound left-turn lanes to Route 659 north and the left through lane will also be closed.
A complete closure of Routes 7 and 659 will occur at 20-minute intervals between 12 and 5 a.m. During the 20-minute interval closures, Route 659 northbound and southbound will be closed onto Route 7 westbound.
Law enforcement personnel will be on site directing traffic.
Phase 2
The second phase is scheduled to begin after completion of Phase 1 night work — around April 11. The work will run Monday through Friday nights until around April 20, weather permitting.
Closures begin at 10 p.m. and include Route 7 eastbound left-turn lanes onto Route 659 north and the Route 7 eastbound left and center through lanes.
Route 7 and Route 659 closures will occur at 20-minute intervals between 12 and 5 a.m.
Loudoun County officials ask that motorists plan ahead to take alternate routes to avoid this area during the affected times.
In advance of Phase 1, electronic message boards will be posted in the next few days to advise the public, and will remain in place through the completion of Phase 2.
During the night work, daytime construction activities will continue and include intermittent lane closures as necessary.
Daytime lane closures are expected to continue into June.
