WASHINGTON — While most people flock to the beach so they can enjoy some fun in the sun, there is another reason to love these sandy scenes: gainful employment.
Why not work where you love?
There are a whole host of job fairs and events slated for the region’s beaches in March and April.
The Roland E. Powell Convention Center will play host to Ocean City, Maryland’s 33rd annual job fair on March 31 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event is attended by thousands of job seekers and employers.
There is no entry fee for those looking for a job.
For businesses that are aiming to hire workers, booths will cost chamber of commerce members $175, while nonmembers will need to pony up $275. But $100 of that fee can go toward a chamber membership if they join within 30 days of the job fair.
According to the chamber, over 12,000 jobs will be filled in 2018 in Ocean City.
For those looking for work in the Rehoboth-Dewey Beach area, the “Building Delmarva Job Fair” kicks off March 24 in Georgetown, Delaware, at the The Voice Radio Network and runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thousands of employers and job-seekers are expected.
The Delaware Restaurant Associated will be holding its own, separate job fair April 15 in Rehoboth Beach at the Atlantic Sands Hotel & Conference Center.
The DRA’s event will focus on the local hospitality industry and space is limited to 50 companies.
Tables for employers cost $125 for members and $250 nonmembers.
Employers that want to go a step beyond that can plunk down $500 to become an event sponsor. Included with that is a 6- to 8-foot exhibitor table, fully draped and a more prime area to display their company.
For $1,000, companies get a community partner sponsorship, which includes all the previous bonuses as well as the inclusion of the company logo on the event flyers.
Virginia Beach has several fairs lined up.
The first is the “Spring In-House Career Fair” hosted by VSA resorts March 22 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at their Ocean Key Resort.
Then May 2, the “Over 30 Employers Hiring” event takes place at Stratford University from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
And there will be two “Corporate Gray Military-Friendly Job Fairs” in 2018 specifically for veterans: May 31 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and Oct. 17 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Both will be held at the Virginia Beach Convention Center.
Good to luck those out there looking for a job.
