New bus to National Harbor aims to ease congestion

OXON HILL, Md. — Starting Sunday, visitors and employees will have a new way to get to and from the National Harbor resort complex.

A new Metrobus service — the NH2 — will carry riders from Alexandria to National Harbor.

The new service was announced Thursday morning on the waterfront at National Harbor. Milton Peterson, the founder and chairman of the Peterson Companies and developer at National Harbor, said many visitors and workers who will want to visit the new MGM casino in December will be asking themselves, “How do I get there?” Peterson said the NH2 will provide an easy solution.

Prince George’s County Executive Rushern Baker said the public-private partnership between Metro and National Harbor means that the increased traffic will not have to lead to gridlock. It’s been estimated that with the completion and opening of the new casino, vehicular traffic could double to 180,000 each day.

The service will take riders from Alexandria’s Huntington and King Street stations to National Harbor. It will run seven days a week from 5 a.m. to 1 a.m.
