Be a saint – not a statistic – driving March 17

WASHINGTON — The luck of the Irish doesn’t mean St. Patrick’s Day revelers can drive drunk.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that 40 percent of fatal crashes involving drunk drivers occurred nationwide on the weekend of St Patrick’s Day in 2013. Area police as a result will be out in force with a zero tolerance policy.

Authorities say if drivers decide to enjoy the festivities with a libation, they should opt for a sober ride program, utilize public transportation or call a cab. Individuals are urged to report drunk drivers by dialing police  #77 on their cell phones.
