WASHINGTON — The DMV Game of the Week returns, and we need your votes to determine which matchup we’ll cover.
With four shutouts in six convincing wins to start the season, the Wise Pumas (6-0) have scored 35 or more points in every game. Senior quarterback Jabari Laws has thrown for 14 scores and run for seven more for one of the top teams in the state. After a 10-7 opening week loss, Eleanor Roosevelt (5-1) has ripped off five straight wins, four of them by more than 25 points. The Raiders come into Upper Marlboro, Maryland, with a punishing run game that has racked up over 250 ground yards per game and 13 touchdowns.
The Madison Warhawks (6-0) scored a hard-fought, early season win on the road at Stone Bridge and haven’t looked back. They find themselves in a huge first-place showdown in the Liberty Region of Virginia’s 6A standings on Friday, taking on South Lakes (6-0). Just two years removed from a 2-8 season, the Seahawks have won 10 of their last 11 games dating back to last season and are putting up nearly 50 points per game.
Finally, there’s a big showdown in the District on Saturday, with a contest that might decide the WCAC regular season title. DeMatha (7-0) survived a one-point win over St. John’s in the rain two weeks ago, but have to visit Gonzaga (5-1), which hasn’t lost since its opening game. The Eagles have had an extra week off to prepare for the Stags, and should have a big crowd on Reunion Weekend.
