Great Country Farms This spot in Loudoun County, Virginia, has pick-your-own pumpkins and apples through the month of October. The farm’s market sells local honey, jams and freshly baked goods, and the concession stand serves cider doughnuts and made-to-order flat bread pizzas.  Pro tip: Dirt Farm Brewing is just across the street. Cox Farms Cox Farms is so much more than a pumpkin patch. Located in Centreville, Virginia, it hosts a fall festival complete with hayrides, slides, animals, live entertainment, food, and yes, pumpkins. Butler’s Orchard Tuesdays through Fridays, from Oct. 2 to Nov. 2, Butler’s Orchard offers “pumpkin harvest days,” where visitors can explore the farm’s learning stations, wander through the straw maze and pick a pumpkin in the pumpkin patch — all for $7.50. The Germantown, Maryland, farm also celebrates the fall season with its Pumpkin Festival. Expect hayrides, a jump in the hay loft, giant slides, caramel apples and more. WASHINGTON — It’s not all about chunky knits and crunchy leaves: Fall is the prime time for pumpkins.

And, in the D.C. area, there’s no shortage of farms and orchards with pick-your-own patches and harvest festivals to usher in the season. Here are a few to visit this fall.
