Maryland baby right on time for new year

WASHINGTON — A Maryland family got a surprise just in time for the new year when their baby arrived early Friday morning.

Mother Sandy Luong says just like his older brother, Nathan arrived one week early.

“We didn’t expect we’d have a new year baby, though,” said the mother of two.

Luong was induced, she says, because the baby was getting too big and she was “about to pop.”

Her little boy is the new year baby at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital. Born at 1:30 a.m., Nathan weighed 8 pounds, 11 ounces.

The hospital gave the family a basket full of newborn baby clothes, teething toys and blankets as a gift.

Luong’s husband Albert and her 18-month-old Lucas are thrilled to have a new member of the family.
