WASHINGTON — A Bethesda, Maryland, man has been charged in a gas station robbery and carjacking in Columbia, Maryland, on Monday morning.
Michael Gainer Rothenberg, 27, of Buxton Terrace, in Bethesda, was charged with armed robbery, robbery, first- and second-degree assault, theft and armed carjacking. He’s being held without bond.
Police said in a statement Rothenberg robbed a gas station on Dobbin Road, in Columbia, took off in a car that had already been reported stolen in another county and crashed into a red Mini Cooper a short distance away, at the intersection with Old Dobbin Road.
Witnesses told police the suspect got out of his car and pointed a gun at the Mini Cooper’s driver, demanding the car. He then drove off in it.
No one was injured.
Rothenberg was arrested in Frederick on Monday night, the police said. The Mini Cooper was recovered in another jurisdiction.
