WASHINGTON — Two workers were killed after being thrown from a lift bucket at a construction site in Ellicott City on Saturday,Howard County police said.
At around 7:45 a.m., police were dispatched to the 9100 block of Father’s Legacy, where Rolando Lopez Mendez, 31, of Silver Spring, and Erik Morales Ortiz, 31, of Hyattsville, were found critically injured and on the ground.
Police said the Mendez and Ortiz were in a the bucket of a lift machine that tipped on its side. They were taken to Howard County General Hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries.
Police said there were no signs of foul play, though it was unknown what caused the equipment to tip over.
Maryland Occupational Safety and Health Agency is also investigating the deaths.
The men worked for Brothers Construction Framing Inc.
