WASHINGTON — Two men have been charged for the murder of a man in Howard County more than two years ago.
Raymond Gerod Smith, 47, and Sheldon Lamart Richburg, 48, were arrested for their roles in the death of 39-year-old Omar Oliver at his Columbia, Maryland, apartment, Howard County Police Department announced Friday.
On May 16, 2013, Oliver was shot outside his apartment in the 5200 block of Brook Way at about 1:30 a.m. Police say family members heard arguing and gunshots outside, looked out the window and saw Oliver on the ground. Oliver had been shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Upon investigation, police named Smith and Richburg as suspects.
On Friday, police said they arrested Smith — a Baltimore resident — in Miami, Florida, on June 23 and extradited him to Howard County. Richburg was arrested at the Maryland House of Correction in Jessup, where he was incarcerated on unrelated charges.
Smith and Richburg are both charged with first- and second-degree murder, first- and second-degree conspiracy to commit murder and use of a firearm in commission of a crime of violence.
Smith and Richburg are being held in the Howard County Detention Center. Smith is being held on $100,000 bail and Richburg is being held without bail.
