WASHINGTON — Federal holidays bring changes to traffic, transit and public service openings. This year, many local government entities observed Veterans Day Friday, Nov. 10. Here’s what you need to know as you make your way around D.C. this three-day weekend.
Post offices were open and mailing Nov. 10, when Veterans Day was officially observed, but are closed Nov. 11.
Most banks were closed Nov. 10.

Traffic
High occupancy vehicle restrictions are lifted in Hampton Roads and Northern Virginia Nov. 11.
Transit
Metrorail opened at 5 a.m. Friday and closes at 1 a.m. Saturday. Trains operate at Saturday service intervals (every 12 to 15 minutes during the day). Parking at Metro garages is free. Off-peak fares will be in effect all day.
Single-tracking will impact service on all but the Orange Line Saturday and Sunday.
Saturday supplemental schedule. Some post-midnight trips on the Saturday schedule will not operate, however.
Metrobus operates on aMetroAccess operates on a regular schedule, but subscription trips are canceled. Customers with subscription trips should call to make a reservation for Friday travel.
TheBus operated a regular route service Nov. 10 except for route 51. Route 51 service will resume Nov. 13.
RideOn ran on a modified holiday schedule Friday.
DASH service runs on a regular weekday schedule Nov. 10 to 11.
VRE does not provide service on Veterans Day.
The Fairfax Connector runs on a holiday weekday schedule.
Loudoun County transportation services operates on a reduced schedule.
Limited VanGo service on Veterans Day.
D.C.
Government offices were closed Nov. 10.
Trash was not collected Friday. Trash pickup will slide to the next day, resuming on Saturday, Nov. 11.
Most libraries in D.C. were closed Friday. Select DC Public Library branches that were open Nov. 10 can be found on DCPL’s website.
D.C. did not enforce parking meters Nov. 10.
Maryland
The Maryland Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Administration is closed Nov. 10 to Nov. 11. Vehicle Emissions Inspection Program stations will be closed. Self-service VEIP kiosks will stay open.
Anne Arundel County offices will be closed Nov. 10.
No changes to the trash collection schedule. Landfill and recycling centers were closed Nov. 10.
Anne Arundel County public libraries were open Nov. 10.
Calvert County government offices were closed Nov. 10.
All Calvert County libraries were closed.
In Charles County, no changes to recycling and yard wast collections.
Charles County public libraries are closed Nov. 10 – 11.
Frederick County government observes Veterans Day Nov. 10.
Landfill, transfer station and recycling drop-off center facilities were open; the Department of Solid Waste Management Administration and Office of Recycling were closed Friday.

Howard County Government offices were closed Nov. 10.
The landfill is open and trash, recycling, food scraps and yard trim curbside collection will maintain a regular schedule.

In Alexandria, parking regulations were enforced on Nov. 10. On Saturday, Nov. 11 the city will suspend enforcement of parking restrictions at metered spaces and residential permit parking districts.
Trash and recycling collections run on a regular schedule; city refuse/recycling office are open.
Alexandria recreation centers will open on Veterans Day.
Arlington County observed Veterans Day Nov. 10; government office and facilities will be closed.
Parking meters were not enforced.
