US ambassador to Panama resigns, can’t serve Trump

WASHINGTON — U.S. Ambassador to Panama John Feeley has resigned, Reuters reports.

The career diplomat and former Marine Corps helicopter pilot told the State Department he no longer feels he is able to serve President Donald Trump.

News of Feeley’s resignation comes a day after Trump’s comments about immigration and developing countries, where Trump questioned why the U.S. would accept more immigrants from Haiti and “shithole countries” in Africa.

However a State Department official said Feeley submitted his resignation in December, prior to Trump’s Thursday comments, ABC News reported.
