Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price resigns

WASHINGTON — Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price resigned Friday afternoon amid criticism of his travel on private planes.

The White House announced that Price offered his resignation earlier Friday and President Donald Trump accepted. Trump will name Don J. Wright of Virginia to serve as Acting Secretary, effective just before midnight on Sept. 29, 2017.

Wright currently serves as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Health and Director of the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion.
